Early Life and Education
Alberto Cirio studied law at the University of Turin. This education helped prepare him for his career in public service.
Political Career in Piedmont
Cirio began his political journey in his home region of Piedmont. He served as the Deputy Mayor of Alba, a city in Piedmont, from 1995 to 2005.
In 2005, he was elected to the Regional Council of Piedmont. This council helps make important decisions for the Piedmont region. He was re-elected to the Regional Council in 2010. From 2010 to 2014, he worked as the Regional Minister for Education, Tourism, and Sport in Piedmont.
Serving in the European Parliament
In 2014, Alberto Cirio was elected to the European Parliament. He represented the North-West region of Italy. As an MEP, he worked on laws and policies that affect all countries in the European Union. His term as an MEP ended in July 2019.
President of Piedmont
On May 26, 2019, Cirio was elected President of Piedmont. This is a very important role, similar to a governor for the region. He was supported by several political parties, including Forza Italia, the Northern League, Brothers of Italy, and Union of the Centre.
On June 9, 2024, Alberto Cirio was re-elected as the President of Piedmont. He continues to lead the region with the support of the centre-right coalition.
