Albinia Hobart (born around 1737 or 1738, died 1816) was a well-known person in Britain during the 1700s. She inherited money from her father. In 1793, she became the Countess of Buckinghamshire when she married George Hobart. People often drew cartoons about her because of her lively lifestyle. She appeared in over 50 funny drawings.
Life as a Countess
Albinia Bertie was born to Lord Vere Bertie and Anne Casey. Her mother, Anne Casey, inherited a lot of money and land from her father. In 1757, Albinia married George Hobart. She became the Countess of Buckinghamshire in 1793 when he inherited his family's title.
The Hobarts lived in a grand house called Hobart House. It was in Ham Common, London, near Richmond, London. Some people thought it looked like the summer palace of Frederick the Great called Sanssouci.
Parties and Social Life
Albinia was famous for throwing very fancy parties at her home. She and her daughters would even perform at these events. Important people from "high society" attended, including royal princes.

During this time, playing card games for money was very popular. Albinia and other famous people, like Charles James Fox and Georgiana Cavendish, were known for their love of these games. The Hobarts were famous for their extravagant spending.
Albinia enjoyed her parties and card games. Her husband also enjoyed himself. They had four daughters and three sons. Newspapers at the time often wrote about her parties and her love for fancy clothes. She enjoyed wearing stylish outfits, sometimes even those meant for her daughters.
Public Life
Albinia became a notable figure in the 1784 British general election. This was a big political event in the Westminster area. Charles James Fox had the very glamorous Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire supporting him. She was even accused of kissing voters to get their support. Albinia, the Countess of Buckinghamshire, supported her relative Sir Cecil Wray, 13th Baronet.
After her husband passed away in 1804, she became the Dowager Countess of Buckinghamshire. She died on March 11, 1816, in Nocton. She was buried there with her husband.
