Albolote is a cool city in the province of Granada, Spain. It's part of the bigger Granada area, like a suburb. Albolote includes smaller towns and areas such as El Aire, El Chaparral, and Parque del Cubillas. You'll also find many neighborhoods within its borders. In 2018, about 18,746 people lived there.
On April 19, 1956, Albolote and the nearby town of Atarfe experienced a strong earthquake. It was one of the most powerful earthquakes in Spain during the 20th century. Sadly, some people lost their lives, and many buildings were damaged.
Since 2017, Albolote has been connected to central Granada by a modern metro system. This makes it easy for people to travel between the city and its neighbors.

History of Albolote
Albolote started as a town when the Nasrid dynasty ruled the Emirate of Granada. Its name comes from the Arabic words Qaryat al-Bollut, which means 'Oak town'. It was planned as a resting place for soldiers guarding the important Royal Path to Jaén.
Close to Albolote, a big battle called the Battle of La Higueruela happened on July 1, 1431. In this battle, the troops of King Juan II of Castille defeated the Muslim armies. This important event was even painted and shown at the famous Monastery El Escorial.
Later, in the 17th century, Albolote became a private estate owned by Don Antonio Álvarez de Bohórquez. He was the first marquis of Los Trujillos. In 1803, King Carlos IV gave a special title, Duque de Gor, to Don Nicolás Mauricio Álvarez de Bohórquez.
Geography of Albolote
Albolote has four rivers flowing through it: Juncaril, Colomera, Cubillas, and Magon. The Cubillas reservoir is also very important. It's used for fun activities like boating and also stores water for the area.

Albolote has a mediterranean climate. This means it has cool winters and hot summers. The temperature can change a lot in one day, sometimes by as much as 20 degrees Celsius! Most of the rain falls during winter, so summers are usually very dry.

Culture in Albolote
Albolote celebrates its popular festivals during the first weekend of August, starting on Thursday. These celebrations honor the town's patron saint, the Holly Christ of Health.
