Alborosie's Musical Journey

How Alborosie Started in Music

Alberto D'Ascola grew up in Marsala, Sicily, Italy. He is a very skilled musician who can play many instruments. These include the guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard.

His music career began when he was just 15 years old in 1993. He joined an Italian reggae band called Reggae National Tickets [it]. In that band, he was known as Stena.

In 2001, Alborosie decided to start his own solo career. He moved to Jamaica, which is where reggae music began. He wanted to be closer to the roots of reggae and the Rastafari culture.

Becoming Alborosie: A New Name

In Jamaica, he started working as a sound engineer and producer. He even worked with famous artists like Gentleman and Ky-Mani Marley. His first solo album was named Soul Pirate.

The name "Alborosie" came from a nickname he got in Jamaica. He decided to use it to turn something negative into something positive. He added "Al" from his real name, Albert, to "Borosie."

Early Solo Albums: Soul Pirate and Escape From Babylon

In 2006, Alborosie released his first album, Soul Pirate. This album featured popular songs like "Rastafari Anthem" and "Kingston Town." He released it on his own record label, Forward Recordings.
