A Look Back at Alcester's History
Alcester was officially planned and marked out in 1879. Before that, it had a couple of other names, like Linia and Irene. The city's current name honors a British army officer named Colonel Alcester. A local newspaper, the Alcester Union, started publishing weekly in 1888. The city was officially incorporated in 1893.
