Alcide Moodie "Cid" LaNoue (born November 2, 1934 – died February 20, 2021) was an important leader in the United States Army. He reached the high rank of lieutenant general. From 1992 to 1996, he served as the Surgeon General of the United States Army. This means he was the top doctor and health leader for the entire U.S. Army.

Alcide LaNoue's Life and Career
Alcide LaNoue, often called "Cid," was born in Tonawanda, New York. He had a very impressive education. He earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Harvard College in 1956. Later, he went to Yale School of Medicine and became a medical doctor in 1960.
Joining the Army
LaNoue joined the U.S. Army in 1957. He became a special kind of doctor called an orthopedic surgeon. Orthopedic surgeons help people with problems in their bones and joints. He also attended special military schools. These included The Medical Field Service School and the United States Army Command and General Staff College.
Important Roles in the Army
Before becoming the Surgeon General, LaNoue held many other important jobs. He was the Commander of the Eisenhower Army Medical Center. He also led the United States Army Academy of Health Sciences. He served as the Deputy Surgeon General of the Army. And he was the Commanding General of the United States Army Health Services Command.
Serving as Surgeon General
From September 1992 to September 1996, Alcide LaNoue was the Surgeon General of the United States Army. In this role, he was responsible for the health and medical care of all Army soldiers and their families. It was a very important job that helped keep the Army strong and healthy.
