Platja del Moro
Alcossebre, a view of the beach called Platja del Moro

Alcossebre (Spanish: Alcocebre / Alcocéber) is a lovely seaside village. You can find it on the eastern coast of Spain, in a region called the Valencian Community. It's part of the beautiful Costa del Azahar, which means "Orange Blossom Coast."

Alcossebre is located in the province of Castelló. It's also part of the larger area of Alcala de Xivert, along with nearby villages like Capicorb and Les Fonts (Las Fuentes). This village is a popular place for tourists. People love it because it's not full of huge, tall buildings.

What Makes Alcossebre Special?

A seaside promenade, perfect for walks

This small village sits at the southern end of the Serra d'Irta mountain range. It boasts about ten kilometers (that's over 6 miles) of coastline. Along this coast, you'll find five amazing beaches and many other natural, untouched spots.

Unlike many other towns along the coast, Alcossebre has kept its natural charm. It hasn't been completely built up with lots of concrete. It's part of the Costa del Azahar. To its north is the town of Peniscola, and to its south is Torreblanca.

Exploring Alcossebre's Beaches

Alcossebre's ten kilometers of coastline offer some fantastic places to swim and relax. There are four main beaches that are very popular. These are Carregador, El Romà, El Moro, and Manyetes (also known as Tropicana). Manyetes beach is shared with the nearby village of Capicorb.

These main beaches have earned the Blue Flag award. This flag is a special sign that shows the beach is clean, safe, and well-managed.

Hidden Coves and Unique Beaches

Besides the main beaches, Alcossebre also has three charming coves. A cove is a small, sheltered bay.

  • Tres Platges (meaning "Three Beaches") is a group of three small bays. They are separated by interesting rocky areas. The seabed here is rocky too, which is great for exploring.
  • Cala del Moro is a small cove. It's separated from the larger El Moro beach by a small sand dune.
  • Cala Blanca is another pretty cove. You can find it close to the local lighthouse.

One of the most visited beaches is Les Fonts (Las Fuentes). It's about 360 meters (1,180 feet) long and 32 meters (105 feet) wide. What makes it unique are the freshwater springs. These springs bubble up right from the sand! The water comes from the karstic system of the Sierra de Irta mountains.

On a clear day, you might even spot the Columbretes Islands far out in the sea. They are a group of small volcanic islands.
