The Story of Aldenham Reservoir
Why Was the Reservoir Built?
The Aldenham Reservoir was dug out a long time ago, in 1795. French prisoners of war helped build it. Its main job was to keep local river levels steady. This was important after the Grand Union Canal was built. The canal needed a lot of water to work properly.
A Backup Water Supply
Today, the reservoir is still very important. It acts as a backup supply of public water. This means it can provide water to people if needed.
