Alderson is a small town in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, United States. In 2010, about 304 people lived there. By 2020, the population was 220.
History of Alderson
Alderson got its first post office on March 5, 1890. The town was named after William Charles Alderson. He was an important person for the Choctaw, Oklahoma and Gulf Railroad.
Interestingly, William Charles Alderson was also known as "Willy." He was one of the children featured in a book called Our Cousins in Ohio (1849) by Mary Howitt. This book shared many stories about him.
When Alderson was first established, it was part of Tobucksy County. This area was within the Choctaw Nation, which was a large territory belonging to the Choctaw people.
