Aleksander Tammert, born on February 2, 1973, is a famous Estonian discus thrower. He is known for winning an Olympic medal and many other awards in athletics.

Aleksander Tammert's Athletics Journey
Aleksander Tammert is a talented athlete who competes in discus throwing. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, he first finished fourth. But later, he was awarded a bronze medal. This happened because the original gold medalist was disqualified. A month after the Olympics, he also won a bronze medal at the World Athletics Final.
In 2005, Aleksander finished fourth at both the World Championships and the World Athletics Final. His fellow Estonian athlete, Gerd Kanter, won silver medals at these same events.
In 2006, Aleksander continued his success. He placed third at the European Championships. He also won another bronze medal at the World Athletics Final. Again, Gerd Kanter won silver medals at both these competitions.
Aleksander's best-ever throw is 70.82 meters (about 232 feet and 3.5 inches). He achieved this amazing distance on April 15, 2006, in Denton, Texas.

Aleksander Tammert's Family Life
Aleksander Tammert is married to Elizabeta Randjelovič Tammert. She is also an athlete from Slovenia who competes in javelin throw. They have two daughters together.
Aleksander's father, Aleksander Tammert Sr., was also a famous athlete. He was a shot putter and an athletics coach. He won the European Junior Championships in 1966. Aleksander Tammert Jr. also studied at SMU Mustangs, graduating in 1996.
