Aleksandra Fedoriva: A Russian Sprinter

Aleksandra Fedoriva has competed in many important athletics events. She has won several medals throughout her career. Her journey in sports began with hurdles before she became a successful sprinter.

Early Career: Hurdling

Aleksandra started her sports journey as a hurdler. She competed in the 100 metres hurdles at the 2005 World Youth Championships. She reached the semi-finals there. In 2006, she finished fourth at the World Junior Championships.

The next year, in 2007, she won a gold medal in the hurdles at the European Athletics Junior Championships. That same year, she set a new Russian junior record in the 60 metres hurdles. She completed the race in 8.22 seconds. This record stood for five years.

Olympic Games Experience

Aleksandra Fedoriva represented Russia at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. She was part of the 4 × 100 metres relay team. Her teammates were Yuliya Chermoshanskaya, Yulia Gushchina, and Yevgeniya Polyakova.

In their first race, they finished second, right behind Jamaica. Their time was 42.87 seconds. In the final race, they crossed the finish line in 42.31 seconds. They won the gold medal because the Jamaican team had a problem with their baton exchange.

However, in August 2016, Aleksandra and her three relay teammates lost their Olympic gold medal. This happened because one of her teammates had a doping violation.

Success in Sprinting Events

After her early hurdling career, Aleksandra started focusing on longer sprint races. At the 2009 European Athletics U23 Championships, she won the title in the women's 200 metres race.

In 2010, she competed in the 60 metres hurdles at the IAAF World Indoor Championships. She reached the semi-finals there. She found even more success in outdoor sprint races that year.
