Alessandro Cortini, born on May 24, 1976, is a talented musician from Italy. He is most famous for playing with the American band Nine Inch Nails. Alessandro plays many instruments, including special electronic keyboards called synthesizers, guitar, and bass guitar.
In 2020, Alessandro Cortini became the first Italian to be welcomed into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This happened when he was inducted as a member of Nine Inch Nails. He also helps create musical instruments. One of his creations is an electronic synthesizer called Strega, which he made with Make Noise.

Early Life and Musical Journey
Alessandro Cortini was born in Bologna, Italy, and grew up in Forlì, Italy. He moved to the United States to study guitar at the Musicians Institute. After finishing his studies, he decided to focus more on keyboards and synthesizers instead of the guitar.
Music Career Highlights
Early Music Projects
From 2001 to 2002, Alessandro played guitar for a band called The Mayfield Four. He helped them on their tour for the album Second Skin.
Alessandro also helped start a band called Modwheelmood. This band played electronic and alternative rock music. They released several EPs (shorter albums) like ? in 2003 and Enemies & Immigrants in 2006. They also released parts of their album Pearls to Pigs, Vol. 1 starting in 2007.
Joining Nine Inch Nails
While teaching at the Musicians Institute, Alessandro saw an advertisement for auditions for the band Nine Inch Nails. The band's leader, Trent Reznor, said that Alessandro "fit in immediately." Trent Reznor also mentioned that Alessandro was very good at playing the studio parts of their songs live.

Alessandro toured with Nine Inch Nails from 2005 to 2008. He mainly played keyboards, but also played guitar and bass on some songs. He helped create music for their instrumental album Ghosts I–IV and the album The Slip. He also appeared in their live DVD Beside You in Time and music videos. He left the band in 2008 to work on other projects.
In March 2017, Nine Inch Nails announced that Alessandro would join them again for their summer performances. During these shows, he mostly played bass guitar. As mentioned earlier, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Nine Inch Nails in 2020.
Other Bands and Solo Work
Alessandro also joined How To Destroy Angels as a touring member. This band includes Trent Reznor and other musicians. He played many instruments on stage and even remixed one of their songs. In 2013, Alessandro returned to Nine Inch Nails and helped write a song for their album Hesitation Marks.
In 2009, Alessandro started a solo project called blindoldfreak and went on a small tour in Canada.
He is also the leader of an electronic and alternative rock band called SONOIO. He formed this band in 2010. The name "SONOIO" means "it's me" in Italian, showing that it's his solo project. SONOIO has released albums like SONOIO Blue (2010) and SONOIO Red (2011).
Alessandro has released several solo albums through Mute Records, including Volume Massimo in 2019, Scuro Chiaro in 2021, and NATI INFINITI in 2024.

Alessandro Cortini has worked with many other musicians. ..... He also helped produce a song called "We Are the Sea" for Marnie, Ladytron's main singer.
In 2009, he filled in for a touring member of the band Muse. In 2010, he contributed to a song called "Birds of Prey" by pop artist Christina Aguilera. This song was on her album Bionic.
In March 2020, Alessandro released an album called "Illusion of Time" with musician Daniel Avery.
