Alexa Citlali Moreno Medina (born August 8, 1994) is a talented Mexican artistic gymnast. She is famous for her powerful performances, especially on the vault. Alexa made history as the first Mexican female gymnast to win a medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
In 2018, she earned a bronze medal on the vault at the World Championships. She has represented Mexico at the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2020 Summer Olympics. At the 2020 Olympics, she finished an impressive fourth place in the vault final. Alexa is also set to represent Mexico at the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics.
She is the 2023 Pan American champion on vault. Throughout her career, she has won many medals. These include a silver medal on vault at the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games. She also earned a bronze medal on vault at the 2010 Pacific Rim Championships. Alexa has won seven medals on the FIG World Cup circuit. She has also helped her team win bronze medals at the 2011 Pan American Games and the 2014 and 2018 Pan American Championships. She led her team to gold medals at the 2010, 2014, and 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games.

Alexa Moreno's Gymnastics Journey
Alexa Moreno started her gymnastics journey when she was just three years old.
Early Senior Career (2010–2013)
In 2010, Alexa won a bronze medal on the vault at the Pacific Rim Championships. Later that year, at the Central American and Caribbean Games, she helped her team win a gold medal. She also earned a silver medal on the vault. The Mexican team placed twenty-first at the 2010 World Championships.
In 2011, Alexa could not compete at the Pan American Games due to an injury. However, she still received a bronze medal with her team. At the World Championships that year, she qualified for the vault final and finished seventh.
Alexa continued to shine in 2012. She won a silver medal on the vault at the Zibo World Challenge Cup. She then earned her first gold medal on the vault at the Ghent World Challenge Cup. In 2013, she finished fifth in the vault final at the Summer Universiade.
First Olympic Experience (2014–2017)
In 2014, Alexa won a team bronze medal at the Pan American Championships. She also placed well in other events, including sixth in the all-around. At the 2014 World Championships, she helped her team qualify for the next World Championships. She also placed seventh in the vault final. Later, at the Central American and Caribbean Games, she won a gold medal with the Mexican team.
In 2015, Alexa won bronze medals in the all-around at both the Mexican Championships and the Olimpiada Nacional. She also won a silver medal on the vault at the Anadia World Challenge Cup. She missed the Pan American Games due to a broken cheekbone. However, she returned to compete at the World Championships and finished seventh in the vault final.
Alexa qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games by finishing twenty-second in the all-around at the Olympic Test Event. She then won a silver medal on the vault at the Anadia World Challenge Cup. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, she finished thirty-first in the all-around during the qualification round. This made her the second reserve for the all-around final. Alexa took a break from competing in 2017 to focus on her studies.
World Medalist and Second Olympics (2018–2021)
Alexa returned to gymnastics in 2018. She won a bronze medal in the all-around at the Mexican Championships and took the vault title. She also won a team bronze medal at the Pan American Championships.
At the 2018 World Championships in Doha, Alexa won the bronze medal on the vault. This was a historic moment, as she became the first Mexican female gymnast to win a medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She was only the second Mexican gymnast ever to win a World medal. After the World Championships, she won a gold medal on the vault at the Toyota International.
In 2019, Alexa continued to perform well. She won a bronze medal on the vault at the Baku World Cup. She also won the vault title at the Mexican Championships. At the Korea Cup, she earned another bronze medal on the vault. At the 2019 World Championships, she finished sixth in the vault final. Her performance also helped her qualify for the 2020 Olympics.
Alexa represented Mexico at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. She became only the second Mexican female gymnast to reach an Olympic final. She finished fourth in the vault final, very close to a bronze medal. After the Olympics, she announced her retirement from the sport.
Amazing Comeback (2023)
In March 2023, Alexa surprised everyone by announcing her return to training! She planned to compete at the Pan American Championships. At the 2023 Pan American Championships in Medellín, Colombia, she won a gold medal on the vault. She also helped the Mexican team win a silver medal.
Alexa was chosen as the female flag bearer for Mexico at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games. There, she won gold medals with her team, on floor exercise, and on vault. She also earned a silver medal in the all-around and a bronze medal on the balance beam.
At the 2023 Paris World Challenge Cup, Alexa won gold in the vault final and a bronze in the floor exercise final. At the 2023 World Championships, the Mexican team finished 14th. However, Alexa secured a spot for herself at the 2024 Olympic Games. She finished 18th in the all-around final and fourth in the vault final. Despite a knee injury, she also competed at the 2023 Pan American Games, helping her team finish fourth.
Road to Third Olympics (2024)
In 2024, Alexa competed in two World Challenge Cup events. She earned a bronze medal on vault at the Varna World Challenge Cup. Then, she won a gold medal on vault at the Koper World Challenge Cup.
At the 2024 Olympic Games, Alexa was the first reserve for the vault final.
Awards and Recognition
In November 2019, Alexa Moreno received the Premio Nacional de Deportes 2019. This is a very important award for athletes in Mexico. Also in 2019, she was voted Woman of the Year by the El Financiero newspaper. Forbes Mexico magazine also recognized her as one of the 100 most powerful women in Mexico.

Alexa Moreno has worked with big brands. She was featured in a Toyota commercial during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Toyota is one of her sponsors.
Personal Life
During the 2016 Olympics, Alexa faced some challenges with comments on social media. However, she continued to focus on her goals. In December 2021, she achieved another goal by graduating with a degree in Architecture. She studied at the University of the Valley of Mexico in Mexicali.
Alexa looks up to Mexican Taekwondo athlete María Espinoza. She is also a fan of K-pop music and anime. Her floor music at the 2020 Olympics was from the popular anime series 'Demon Slayer'.
