Alexander Burmistrov started his hockey career at a young age. He played in different leagues before becoming a professional. His journey took him from junior leagues to the top professional leagues in the world.
Starting in Junior Hockey
Burmistrov began playing in North America in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). This is a junior league for young players. He joined the Barrie Colts in 2009. He was picked 12th overall in a special draft for international players.
He played his first game in North America on September 17, 2009. In that game, he scored his first goal in the OHL. This was an exciting start to his time playing hockey in Canada.
Becoming a Professional Player
Playing for the Atlanta Thrashers and Winnipeg Jets
In 2010, Burmistrov was chosen by the Atlanta Thrashers in the NHL Draft. He was the 8th player picked overall. This was a big achievement for him.
He made his NHL debut on October 8, 2010. Later that month, he scored his first NHL goal. The Thrashers team later moved and became the Winnipeg Jets. Burmistrov continued to play for the Jets. During the 2011–12 season, he scored 13 goals and had 15 assists for the team.
When the NHL had a lockout in 2012 (meaning no games were played for a while), Burmistrov played for the St. John's IceCaps. This team was a minor league affiliate of the Jets. He played 22 games there before returning to the Jets when the NHL season started again.
Moving to Ak Bars Kazan
After the 2012–13 NHL season, Burmistrov decided to leave the NHL. He signed a two-year contract with Ak Bars Kazan in the KHL. He said he was not happy with his role on the Jets team. He also wanted to play in Russia during the NHL lockout.
Returning to the Winnipeg Jets
