Alexander Burmistrov is a professional ice hockey player from Russia. He plays as a centre, which is a forward position. Alexander currently plays for HC Dynamo Moscow in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He also played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for several teams, including the Atlanta Thrashers and Winnipeg Jets. In 2018, Burmistrov helped his team, Ak Bars Kazan, win the Gagarin Cup, which is a big championship in the KHL.

Alexander Burmistrov's Hockey Journey
Starting in Junior Hockey
Alexander Burmistrov began his journey in North American hockey when he joined the Barrie Colts. This team is part of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He was chosen 12th overall in the 2009 CHL Import Draft.
Burmistrov played his first game in North America on September 17, 2009. In that game against the Owen Sound Attack, he scored his very first OHL goal.
Playing in the NHL
Joining the Atlanta Thrashers and Winnipeg Jets
The Atlanta Thrashers picked Alexander Burmistrov eighth overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. This was a big moment for his career. He made his NHL debut with the Thrashers on October 8, 2010.
Later that month, on October 29, he scored his first NHL goal against the Buffalo Sabres. The Thrashers team later moved and became the Winnipeg Jets. During the 2011–12 season, Burmistrov scored 13 goals and made 15 assists for the Jets.
Time with Ak Bars Kazan
After the 2012–13 NHL season, Burmistrov decided to sign a two-year contract with Ak Bars Kazan in the KHL. He explained that he wanted a different role on the team. He also felt it was a good chance to play in Russia.
Returning to the Winnipeg Jets
On July 1, 2015, Alexander Burmistrov signed a new two-year contract. This meant he would return to play for the Winnipeg Jets in the NHL.
Playing for the Arizona Coyotes
During the 2016–17 season, Burmistrov moved to a new team. He was claimed by the Arizona Coyotes on January 1, 2017. He played 26 games with the Coyotes. In those games, he scored 5 goals and had 9 assists.
Time with the Vancouver Canucks
On July 1, 2017, Burmistrov signed a one-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks. He played a limited role with the team. On December 24, 2017, his agent announced that Burmistrov had left the NHL.
Back to the KHL
Just three days after leaving the NHL, Alexander Burmistrov returned to the KHL. He signed with his former team, Ak Bars Kazan. He helped Ak Bars Kazan win the Gagarin Cup in the 2017–18 season. He played 17 playoff games and scored 3 points.
After that, he signed another two-year contract with Ak Bars. However, during the 2018–19 season, he was traded to Salavat Yulaev Ufa. He continued to play well for Salavat.
As a free agent, Burmistrov returned to Ak Bars Kazan for his fourth time in June 2020. In December 2024, he signed with HC Dynamo Moscow to play the rest of the season.

Alexander Burmistrov has proudly represented Russia in many international tournaments. He played in the 2010 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships.
He also played for the Russian senior team. He won a gold medal at the 2014 IIHF World Championship. He also earned a bronze medal at the 2016 IIHF World Championship. In junior play, he won a silver medal at the 2009 IIHF World U18 Championships.
