Alexandra Bell (artist) facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Alexandra Bell is an American artist known for her unique and thought-provoking work. She is most famous for her art series called Counternarratives. For this project, she takes articles from newspapers, like The New York Times, and changes them. She adds notes, crosses out parts, and rearranges the layout and pictures. Her goal is to show how news stories can sometimes have hidden biases about race and gender, even when they seem to be objective.

About Alexandra Bell

Alexandra Bell was born and grew up in Chicago. She was inspired by other artists like Glenn Ligon, Jenny Holzer, and Alfredo Jaar. She studied at the University of Chicago, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. Later, in 2013, she earned her master's degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. This background in journalism helps her understand how news is put together, which is important for her art.

Art Exhibitions

Alexandra Bell's art has been shown in many places, both in solo shows (where only her art is displayed) and group shows (where her art is shown with others). Her work helps people think critically about the news they read every day.
