Alexandra Corinne Pelosi (born October 5, 1970) is an American journalist, documentary filmmaker, and writer. She is the daughter of Nancy Pelosi, who was once the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and Paul Pelosi.

Early Life and Education

Alexandra Pelosi was born and grew up in San Francisco, California. She is the youngest of five children. She earned a bachelor's degree from Loyola Marymount University. In 1993, she received a master's degree from the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.

Exploring a Career in Film

Before she started making documentaries, Pelosi worked for ten years as a producer at NBC News.

Documenting Political Campaigns

In 2000, while working for NBC, Pelosi covered George W. Bush's campaign for president. She used a small camcorder to record her experiences for 18 months. This footage became her documentary, Journeys with George. The film earned her six Emmy nominations.

In 2001, Pelosi began working only for HBO, a television network known for its films. By 2017, she had filmed and directed 14 documentaries. Most of these were made with Sheila Nevins, a well-known producer.

Pelosi returned to political campaigns during the 2004 Democratic primary. She followed the candidates running for president. Her HBO documentary, Diary of a Political Tourist, showed this journey. She also wrote a book called Sneaking into the Flying Circus. This book was about how presidential campaigns are presented by the media.

Films About Different Topics

Pelosi's documentary Friends of God: A Road Trip with Alexandra Pelosi aired in 2007. This film explored the lives of evangelical Christians in North America. She also interviewed former pastor Ted Haggard for this film. Later, she made The Trials of Ted Haggard, which followed Haggard after he left his church. Critics found this film very interesting.

In 2008, Pelosi went back to political events to document the start of the Tea Party movement. This became her film Right America: Feeling Wronged - Some Voices from the Campaign Trail. It premiered on HBO in 2009.

In 2016, Pelosi created Meet the Donors: Does Money Talk?. This documentary looked at how money influences politics. Pelosi described it as a look into the people who fund elections. The film showed her meeting with wealthy donors and asking them about their contributions.

Pelosi's documentary The Words That Built America aired on July 4, 2017. This special film included readings of the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. On October 13, 2022, video footage taken by Alexandra Pelosi was shown during the Public hearings of the United States House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack. During the events of January 6, 2021, many important leaders from Congress were moved to Fort McNair for safety. Alexandra Pelosi recorded videos during these hours. Her footage showed leaders making urgent phone calls, asking for help for members of Congress. These videos were later released by the committee.

Personal Life

On June 18, 2005, Alexandra Pelosi married Michiel Vos, a journalist and lawyer from the Netherlands. They were married in Greenwich Village.

In 2006, Pelosi and Vos had their first child, a boy named Paul Vos. He was named after Pelosi's father, Paul Pelosi. In 2007, they had a second son, Thomas Vos, named after his great-grandfather, Thomas D'Alesandro Jr..
