Alexandru Mihăiță Chipciu (born on May 18, 1989) is a Romanian professional football player. He currently plays for and captains Liga I club Universitatea Cluj. Alexandru is a very flexible player. He often plays as a winger (on the side of the field) or an attacking midfielder (closer to the opponent's goal). Sometimes, he even plays as a false nine (a forward who drops deep) or a wing-back (a defender who also attacks).
Alexandru Chipciu started his senior career with FC Brașov. In 2011, he joined Steaua București, one of Romania's biggest clubs. There, he won seven national trophies. In 2016, he moved to Belgium to play for Anderlecht. He helped them win a national title in his first season. Later, he returned to Romania in 2020 to play for CFR Cluj, who were champions at the time.
Chipciu also plays for the Romanian national team. He played for the country's under-17 and under-19 teams before joining the senior team in 2011. He was part of the squad that played in the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament.

Club Career Highlights
Starting His Journey
Alexandru Chipciu began his football journey at the age of 13. He joined his hometown club, Dacia Unirea Brăila, in 2001. From 2004 to 2006, he played youth football for Sporting Pitești.
Playing for FC Brașov
At 18, Chipciu started playing for the senior team at FC Brașov. He scored four goals in his first year. To get more playing time and experience, he was loaned out twice. First, to Liga II team Forex Brașov in 2008. Then, he rejoined his old youth club, Brăila, in Liga III for the second part of the 2008–09 season.
When he returned to FC Brașov, the team had moved up to Liga I, the top league. Chipciu started to play much better in the 2010–11 season. He became one of the team's best players. This caught the eye of big clubs from Bucharest, like Steaua and Dinamo. He decided to stay at Brașov for a while longer. He had a great start to the 2011–12 season, scoring two important goals early on.
Success with Steaua București

On December 21, 2011, Steaua București announced that Chipciu was joining their team. He signed a five-year contract. The transfer fee was about €1.2 million.
Chipciu scored his first goal for Steaua on March 31, 2012. He helped Steaua do well in the UEFA Europa League group stage in late 2012. They played against teams like VfB Stuttgart and Molde. In 2013, Steaua beat Ajax in a penalty shootout. They then lost to Chelsea in the next round.
On May 10, 2013, Chipciu got injured during a game. He had a fractured leg bone and was out for five months. Two weeks later, he received a winner's medal. Steaua had won the Liga I (the Romanian league title). This was his first big trophy. He went on to win six more trophies with Steaua. These included two more league championships, one Cupa României (Romanian Cup), one Supercupa României (Supercup), and two Cupa Ligii (League Cup).
Time in Belgium with Anderlecht
On July 18, 2016, Chipciu went to Belgium to join Anderlecht. The club officially announced his signing the next day. He signed a four-year contract. Anderlecht paid €3 million for him.
On August 7, 2016, Chipciu scored his first goal for Anderlecht. It was in a big 5–1 win against Kortrijk. He helped Anderlecht win the Belgian Pro League title in the 2016–17 season. This was another important trophy for him. Later, he was loaned to Sparta Prague in 2018 for one year. He played 27 games there and scored one goal.
Return to Romania
Chipciu came back to Romania on January 18, 2020. He joined CFR Cluj, who were the defending champions. He played nine games that season. CFR Cluj won their third national title in a row. He continued to play for CFR Cluj, helping them win more league titles.
Playing for Universitatea Cluj
On June 25, 2022, Chipciu joined Universitatea Cluj. This club is a city rival of CFR Cluj. He signed a one-year deal. He has been a key player for them, even becoming the team captain.
International Career

Alexandru Chipciu first played for Romania's under-17 team on March 29, 2006. He also played for the under-19 team.
He earned his first senior cap (played his first game) for the Romanian national team in 2011. This was in a match against San Marino. On November 15, 2011, he scored his first goal for the senior national team. This was in a friendly match against Greece in Austria.
On May 17, 2016, Chipciu was chosen for the Romanian squad for the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament. This was a big moment in his international career.
