Alfred Seymour was an English first-class cricketer. He was born on February 16, 1843, in Brussels, Belgium, and passed away on January 31, 1897, in Folkestone, England. He played in two important cricket matches during his career.

Early Life and Family

Alfred Seymour came from an important family. His father was Sir George Hamilton Seymour, a British diplomat. His mother was Gertrude, whose father was Henry Trevor, the 20th Baron Dacre.

Alfred went to Rugby School, a well-known school in England. Even though he attended a school famous for sports, he did not play for the school's main cricket team.

Military Career

After school, Alfred Seymour joined the military. He became an ensign in the 16th Regiment of Foot. Later, in 1861, he moved to the Rifle Brigade.

He was promoted to lieutenant in 1866. Alfred served in the army for several years before deciding to retire from military service in 1869.

Cricket Matches

In the same year he left the army, Alfred Seymour began his cricket career. He played his first "first-class" match for Lancashire. This game was against Sussex in Brighton. This was his only match for Lancashire.

The next year, in 1870, Alfred played another first-class match. This time, he represented Hampshire. His team played against his former club, Lancashire, at Old Trafford.

Life After Cricket

According to the 1881 Census, Alfred Seymour was living with his family in Millbrook, Hampshire. At that time, his job was listed as a magistrate. A magistrate is a type of judge who handles less serious legal cases.

Alfred Seymour passed away in Folkestone, Kent, on January 31, 1897.
