Alfredo Landa Areta (born March 3, 1933 – died May 9, 2013) was a famous Spanish actor. He was known for his many roles in movies and TV shows. He won several important awards during his long career.

About Alfredo Landa

Alfredo Landa was born in Pamplona, a city in Navarre, Spain. He started his studies in San Sebastián. He then began to study law at university. But he loved acting and soon started working with university theater groups. He decided to leave university to become a full-time actor in the theater.

Early Acting Career

In the 1950s, Alfredo Landa worked for a short time as a voice actor. This means he would provide voices for characters in movies or TV shows. His first important movie role was in a film called Atraco a las tres in 1962.

After 1975, when Francisco Franco died, rules about movies in Spain started to change. Alfredo Landa became very popular for playing certain types of characters. These characters were often a bit shy or awkward. This style of acting became so well-known that some people even called it landismo.

Changing Roles and Big Awards

Later in his career, Landa decided to try different kinds of roles. He took on more serious and deep characters. One example is his role as a bandit in the movie El Bosque animado.

In 1984, Alfredo Landa won a very important award. He won the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival. He shared this award with another actor, Francisco Rabal, for their amazing performances in the movie Los santos inocentes. Many people now see him as a truly great dramatic actor.

Alfredo Landa had a very long and successful career. He acted in over 120 movies, many TV series, and several plays. He won many awards in Spain and across Europe. In 2007, when he was 74 years old, he announced he was retiring from acting. He made this announcement at the 10th Movie Festival of Malaga, where he was receiving another award.

Alfredo Landa passed away on May 9, 2013. He was 80 years old. He had complications from Alzheimer's disease.

Alfredo Landa received many awards throughout his career. In 2008, he was given the Prince of Viana Prize. This award was from the Government of Navarre for helping to promote his home region.
