Algatocín is a small town in southern Spain. It is part of the province of Málaga, which is in the region of Andalusia. This town is about 143 kilometers (89 miles) from the city of Málaga. It is also about 30 kilometers (19 miles) from Ronda.
Algatocín is located in a beautiful area called the Valle del Genal. It is one of the towns in the comarca (a type of region) known as the Serranía de Ronda. The town sits high up, at about 725 meters (2,379 feet) above sea level. Around 900 people live here. The town covers an area of about 20 square kilometers (8 square miles).

A Look Back in Time
Ancient Times
People have lived in the Algatocín area for a very long time. The oldest signs of humans go back to the Bronze Age. Scientists found old pottery in a place called Cerro Gordo. Around 1,000 BC, an ancient defensive wall, called an oppidum, was also found there. Later, when the Romans ruled, a big city named Vesci might have been in Cerro Gordo. A Roman road was also nearby.
