Where the River Starts and Flows
The Algodor River begins at a place called Laguna del Navajo. This area is in the Montes de Toledo mountains. It is also part of the Retuerta del Bullaque area in Castile-La Mancha.
The river generally flows north. It travels through the Province of Toledo. Finally, it joins the Tagus river at a spot called Aceca. This place is near the village of Algodor, which is part of the Aranjuez municipality. The village is where the river gets its name.
Dams and Reservoirs
The Algodor River has two important dams. These dams create large reservoirs.
- The first is the Embalse de Finisterre reservoir. It was built in 1977 and can hold 133 million cubic meters of water. You can find it between the towns of Tembleque, Mora, Villanueva de Bogas, and Turleque.
- The second is the smaller Embalse del Castro reservoir. It was built in 1974. This reservoir is near Villamuelas and holds about 8 million cubic meters of water.
Other Streams Joining the Algodor
Most of the streams that flow into the Algodor River are quite small. The only larger one is the Bracea River. It joins the Algodor from its left side.
