Ali-Reza Pahlavi (Persian: علیرضا پهلوی; 28 April 1966 – 4 January 2011) was a member of the Pahlavi Imperial Family of the Imperial State of Iran. He was the younger son of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who was the last Shah (King) of Iran. His mother was Farah Diba.

Before a big change in Iran's government, he was second in line to become the next ruler.

Prince Ali-Reza passed away on 4 January 2011 in Boston, Massachusetts, in the United States. He was 44 years old.

Who Was Prince Ali-Reza?

Prince Ali-Reza Pahlavi was born on April 28, 1966, in Tehran, the capital city of Iran. He was part of the Pahlavi family, which was the ruling royal family of Iran at the time. His father, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, was the Shah, or king, of Iran.

Ali-Reza was the younger son of the Shah and his third wife, Farah Diba. This made him a prince of the Imperial State of Iran.

His Family and Royal Background

As a prince, Ali-Reza was very important in the royal family. He was second in the order of succession to the Iranian throne. This means if his older brother could not become king, Ali-Reza would have been next in line.

The Pahlavi family had ruled Iran since 1925. They were a modernizing family who brought many changes to the country.

What Was the Pahlavi Dynasty?

The Pahlavi dynasty was the last royal family to rule Iran. It started with Reza Shah Pahlavi in 1925. His son, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, was the last Shah.

The Pahlavi rulers worked to make Iran a more modern country. They built new schools and roads. They also tried to improve life for many people.

What Happened to the Throne?

In 1979, a major event called the Iranian Revolution took place. This revolution changed Iran's government completely. The monarchy, or rule by a king, was ended.

Because of this, the Pahlavi Imperial Family had to leave Iran. Prince Ali-Reza and his family moved to other countries. The revolution meant that he could no longer be in line for the throne.
