Alastair Brownlee (born 14 April 1959 – died 14 February 2016) was a well-known English radio broadcaster. He was famous for covering Middlesbrough F.C. football matches on BBC Tees starting in 1982. Because of his strong connection to the club, people often called him the "Voice of the Boro."

Who Was Alastair Brownlee?
Alastair Brownlee was born in Middlesbrough, England, on Byelands Street. This street was very close to the team's old football ground, Ayresome Park. He went to school with the famous comedian Bob Mortimer. Before starting his career in media, Alastair worked in a bank.
The Voice of Middlesbrough F.C.
Alastair Brownlee covered more than 1,000 football matches for Middlesbrough F.C. This shows how dedicated he was to the team! He also hosted the breakfast show on BBC Tees.
From 1995 to 2007, Alastair worked with his friend Bernie Slaven at a radio station called Century FM (which is now Heart North East). Later, the rights to broadcast Middlesbrough's matches went back to the BBC.
More Than Just Radio
Alastair Brownlee was not just a radio voice. He also owned a publishing company called Linthorpe Publishing. With his friend Gordon Cox, he wrote and printed books about Middlesbrough F.C. Some of his book titles included The Road to Eindhoven and The Class of ’86.
He was also a big supporter of charities. Alastair helped raise money for groups like Sport Relief, Children in Need, and Zoe's Place hospice. He lived in Linthorpe with his wife, Wendy, and they had two daughters, Alison and Emily.
A Brave Fight
In November 2015, Alastair Brownlee shared with his listeners that he was facing a serious illness. Even though he was unwell, he bravely continued to cover the "Boro" matches until December. At that time, the team was trying hard to get back into the Premier League.
During a football match against Everton at the Riverside Stadium, fans showed their support for Alastair. They put on a special light show, which was even shown live on Sky Sports. He fought his illness for three months. Alastair passed away at home on 14 February 2016, at the age of 56, surrounded by his family.
Many people shared their sadness and respect for Alastair. Middlesbrough F.C. chairman Steve Gibson called him a "true friend." He praised Alastair's amazing career and his charity work. Former manager Tony Mowbray remembered Alastair's cheerful personality. Other football clubs, including Hartlepool United, Sunderland, Everton, and Stoke City, also sent their tributes.
Alastair Brownlee's funeral procession passed by the Riverside Stadium and the old Ayresome Park ground. A private service was held at St. Mary's Church in Acklam on 25 February.
