Biography
Alice Chaplin was born in 1848 in a town called Sudbury in Suffolk, England. Her parents were James Chaplin and Eliza Hales.
As she grew up, Alice decided to study art. She moved to London to learn about sculpture. She settled in an area called Chelsea and lived in west London for the rest of her life.
Alice was especially known for making statues of animals. She created many different kinds of animal sculptures. Her artworks were made from bronze and terracotta.
She was a very active artist. From 1877 to 1900, she showed 18 of her artworks at the famous Royal Academy in London. This was a big achievement for an artist. She also often displayed her art at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool.
In 1903, Alice showed a small statue of a puma (a type of wild cat) at an Arts and Crafts exhibition in London. What's even cooler is that Queen Victoria herself bought some of Alice's animal sculptures!
Alice Chaplin passed away in 1921 in Fulham, London. Her sister, Florence Chaplin, was also an artist. Florence was known for painting portraits.
