Alice Cherleton, also known as Alice Fitzalan, was an important English noblewoman. She was born in 1378 and lived until 1415. Alice was the daughter of a powerful man named Richard FitzAlan, who was the 11th Earl of Arundel. She became the wife of John Charleton, who was the 4th Baron Cherleton. As his wife, she held the title of Baroness Cherleton.
Alice's Family Background
Alice was born at Arundel Castle in Sussex, England, in 1378. She was one of seven children born to Richard Fitzalan, the 11th Earl of Arundel, and his first wife, Elizabeth de Bohun.
Alice had two brothers, including Thomas Fitzalan, 12th Earl of Arundel. She also had four sisters: Lady Eleanor FitzAlan, Lady Elizabeth FitzAlan, Lady Joan FitzAlan, and Lady Margaret FitzAlan. Her family was very well-known and connected to other important noble families in England.
Her father, Richard Fitzalan, faced serious trouble with King Richard II of England and sadly passed away on September 21, 1397.
Her Marriage
Alice married John Cherleton, 4th Lord Cherleton sometime before March 1392. John was born on April 25, 1362. When they married, Alice became known as Baroness Cherleton.
Her husband, John Cherleton, passed away on October 19, 1401. Alice herself died before October 1415, when she was about 37 years old.
