Alisohbat Sumbat oglu Sumbatzade (born on January 8, 1907, in Amirjan, Baku – died in 1992, in Baku) was an important Azerbaijani historian. He was also an orientalist, which means he studied the languages, cultures, and history of countries in the East. From 1958, he was a member of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijani SSR, a group of top scientists and scholars.

Early Life and Education

Alisohbat Sumbatzade started his journey in learning at Azerbaijan State University. He studied in the Department of Oriental Studies, where he focused on the history and cultures of Eastern countries. He successfully graduated from this department in 1929.

Career and Contributions

Sumbatzade dedicated his life to studying history. In 1963, he became the director of a special research center. This center was called the Institute of the Peoples of the Near and Middle East. It was part of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR.

Alisohbat Sumbatzade's most important work focused on the socioeconomic history of Azerbaijan. This means he studied how society and the economy of Azerbaijan changed during the 19th and 20th centuries.
