Alison Rosamund King (born 3 March 1973) is a talented English actress and model. She is famous for playing Lynda Block in the TV drama Dream Team (from 1998 to 2003, and again from 2005 to 2007). She is also well-known for her role as Carla Connor in the long-running TV show Coronation Street (from 2006 until now). She even won the Best Actress award at the 2012 British Soap Awards.

Early Life and Acting Dreams

Alison King was born in Leicester, England. She is the youngest of four children. Her parents, Alex and June King, were both nurses. Alison grew up in Markfield, Leicestershire.

She went to South Charnwood High School. This is where she first became interested in acting. She kept acting when she attended Groby Community College. A teacher there offered drama and dance classes for students.

When she was 18, King moved to Newquay, Cornwall. She worked at a surf shop and enjoyed surfing. For four years, she also worked as a dental nurse. At 22, she decided to study acting seriously. She enrolled at the North Cheshire Theatre School.

Her Acting Career

While at theatre school, Alison got her first TV role. She played Helen in two episodes of Brookside. Before finishing her acting diploma, she landed a big role. She was cast as Lynda Block in Sky One's Dream Team.

She was on Dream Team for three years. She left when her character went to prison. She later returned to the show for more episodes. During her break from Dream Team, she worked on other projects.

She had a small role in the American film Shanghai Knights. She also appeared in the BBC comedy-drama Help. Alison also starred in action films like Submerged (2005). She also appeared in Final Contract: Death on Delivery [de].

Alison enjoyed doing stunts in Submerged. She said the stunt team taught her many cool tricks. She learned how to hang upside down and jump into dams. In Final Contract, she used a crossbow and chased people in speedboats.

King also made guest appearances in other TV shows. She was in the final episode of Mile High. She also appeared in Coupling and Holby City. She had a small role in the film Fat Slags. She also played important roles in two independent films, Save Angel Hope (2006) and Back in Business (2007).

In 2000, she was in an episode of Cold Feet. In 2004, she appeared in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet. In 2018, King was in four episodes of Sick Note. This was her first Sky One show since Dream Team.

Playing Carla Connor in Coronation Street

In 2006, Alison was chosen to play Carla Connor. This was a big role in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street. Her first episode aired on 1 December 2006. She had actually been on the show before in 2004. She played a different character named Mrs. Fanshaw.

Alison took a break from the show in 2009 for maternity leave. Her role in Coronation Street often involved exciting storylines. In 2010, she was part of the story about the death of Tony Gordon. Her character was kidnapped in a factory.

In 2013, King talked about her future on the show. She said she might not stay forever. She wanted to try different types of acting, like action dramas. But she also said she would stay as long as she was happy.

In 2015, it was announced she would take a long break from Coronation Street. However, in 2016, it was confirmed she would leave permanently. She told RadioTimes why she left. She wanted to spend more time with her daughter. She also missed playing different characters. She wanted to try new acting jobs. Her last episode aired on 26 May 2016.

In late 2016 and early 2017, Alison greeted fans in a virtual reality video. This was for the Coronation Street tour. She said it felt strange but familiar to be back on the set. It had been her home for 10 years.

In August 2017, it was announced that Alison King would return as Carla. Her return episode aired on 22 December 2017. Since coming back, she has been nominated for awards. She has also received praise for her acting. This includes her portrayal of Carla's mental health storyline in 2019.
