All Saints' Church, Steetley, is a very old and important church located in Whitwell, Derbyshire, England. It is part of the Church of England. This church is so special that it has a "Grade I listed" status. This means it is considered one of the most important historic buildings in the country.
A Look Back in Time: The Church's History
This amazing church was first built way back in the 12th century (which means the 1100s!). Some parts of it were added a bit later, in the 13th century (the 1200s). Imagine how many years it has stood there!
For a long time, starting in the 16th century (the 1500s), the church didn't even have a roof. It was open to the sky! But then, in 1879, a person named Reverend G. E. Mason decided it was time to fix it up.
The church was carefully restored between 1879 and 1880. A famous architect named John Loughborough Pearson helped make it beautiful again. Thanks to their efforts, we can still see this historic building today.
Music at the Church: The Organ
For many years, the church had a special musical instrument called a pipe organ. This organ was put in by a company called Cousins in 1973. Pipe organs make music using air blown through many pipes.
However, the pipe organ was later replaced. Now, the church uses an electronic organ. This type of organ uses electronics to create sounds, making it a more modern way to have music during services.
