History of All Saints Church
Building Design and Art
The church was designed by a talented architect named Helgo Zettervall. He created it in a style called gothic revival. This means it looks like the grand Gothic churches from hundreds of years ago.
Inside the church, you'll find some interesting features. The altar, which is a central part of the church, is made from rough cement. The beautiful paintings decorating the church were done by an artist named Svante Thulin.
The baptismal font, used for baptisms, is made of smooth, polished cement. It also has a copper bowl. Sven Bengtsson created this special font. The altarpiece, which is a piece of art behind the altar, shows a crucifix. It was carved from wood by Carl Johan Dyfverman.
The Tall Tower and Bells
The church has a very tall tower, standing 72 meters high. This makes it the second tallest building in Lund, after Ideon Gateway. Its neo-Gothic style means it looks like a modern version of old Gothic buildings. You can see the tower from far away across the flat land.
The tower holds three large bells. These bells were made by the M & O Ohlsson bell foundry in Ystad. They were first used in 1966, when the church celebrated its 75th birthday.
Capacity and Renovations
All Saints Church is quite large and can hold about 2,000 people. In the summer of 2009, the church underwent a big renovation. During this time, workers replaced between 5,000 and 6,000 of its stones to keep the building strong and beautiful.
