History of All Saints Church
Building Design and Art
The church was designed by a famous architect named Helgo Zettervall. He lived from 1831 to 1907. He designed the church in a style called Gothic Revival. This style looks back to the grand, tall churches built in the Middle Ages.
Inside the church, you'll find an altar made from rough cement. The beautiful paintings that decorate the church were created by an artist named Svante Thulin. He lived from 1837 to 1918. The baptismal font, which is used for baptisms, is made of smooth, polished cement. It has a copper bowl inside it. Sven Bengtsson created this special font.
The altarpiece is a large piece of art behind the altar. It shows a crucifix and was carved from wood. Carl Johan Dyfverman, who lived from 1844 to 1892, made this impressive artwork.
The Church Tower and Bells
The tower of All Saints Church is very tall, reaching 72 meters high. This makes it the second tallest building in Lund, after Ideon Gateway. Its neo-Gothic style means it has a classic, grand look. You can see the tower from far across the flat landscape.
The tower has three large bells. These bells were made by the M & O Ohlsson bell foundry in Ystad. They were first used in 1966. This was a special year because the church was celebrating its 75th anniversary. The church is quite large and can hold about 2,000 people.
Recent Renovations
In the summer of 2009, the church underwent a big renovation. During this time, workers replaced many of the church's stones. They changed between 5,000 and 6,000 stones to help keep the building strong and beautiful.
