All Saints Church is a special Church of England parish church located in Tooting, which is part of Greater London. This beautiful church was designed by an architect named Temple Moore. It is considered a very important building and is officially listed as a grade II listed building. This means it's a historic place that needs to be protected.
The Church's Story
All Saints Church was built a long time ago, between 1903 and 1906. The main architect was Temple Moore. However, there was a disagreement, so another person, Walter Tapper, helped with the inside decorations. The church officially opened in 1907.
The church has a special style called Gothic Revival. This means it looks like old churches from the Gothic period, but it was built much later. It has a big main hall (called a nave), side areas (aisles), a tall tower, and a special area for the altar (the chancel). There is also a smaller chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary, known as the Lady Chapel.
On 14 July 1955, the church was officially recognized as a grade II listed building. This listing helps protect its unique history and architecture.
Music and Sound
All Saints Church is famous for its excellent sound quality, also known as its acoustic. It also has an amazing organ built by Harrison and Harrison in 1906. This organ is so special that it received a Grade II* listing in 2014. This means it's one of the most important organs in the country.
The church also has a smaller organ and a grand piano. Many important music recordings were made here in the 1980s and 1990s. A famous album called A Garland for Linda was recorded at All Saints in 1999. The current Director of Music is Emma Howarth.
