Allan Bresland was born on August 16, 1945. He is a former politician from the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). He served as a local council member for Derry City and Strabane District Council from 2014 to 2023. Before that, he was a member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) for West Tyrone from 2007 to 2011.

Allan Bresland's Early Career
Allan Bresland went to Ballylaw Primary School. Before becoming a politician, he worked as a lorry driver for the Water Service.
Starting in Local Government
He first became involved in local politics in 1993. He was elected to the Strabane District Council. He represented the Glenelly area.
Community Involvement
Mr. Bresland was part of many different groups. These included the Drainage Council of Northern Ireland. He also led the Western Group Environmental Health Committee. He was the chairman of North West Passage, a group that helps promote tourism. He was also a member of the District Policing Partnership in Strabane.
Time in the Northern Ireland Assembly
In the 2007 election, Allan Bresland was elected as an MLA. He represented the West Tyrone area. He was one of two DUP members elected from that area. He won the last seat in the constituency.

In 2007, Allan Bresland had very low expenses compared to other MLAs. This showed he was careful with public money. He served in the Assembly until 2011.
Return to Local Council Work
Allan Bresland lost his Assembly seat in the 2011 election. However, he was re-elected to the Strabane District Council on the same day.

In 2014, he was elected to the new Derry City and Strabane District Council. He represented the Sperrin area. He was re-elected to this council in 2019 and 2023. Allan Bresland retired from the Council in October 2023.
Allan Bresland's Personal Life
Allan Bresland lives in Sion Mills. He is married and has four children. He also has six grandchildren. He is an active member of his local church. He is also part of the Orange Order. He helped start the North Tyrone Credit Union. For 15 years, he served as a part-time member of the Ulster Defence Regiment.
