Allan Bresland (born 16 August 1945) is a retired politician from Northern Ireland. He was a member of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). He served as a local councillor for the Derry and Strabane area from 2014 to 2023. Before that, he was a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) for West Tyrone from 2007 to 2011.

Allan Bresland's Journey in Politics
Allan Bresland went to Ballylaw Primary School. Before becoming a full-time politician, he worked as a lorry driver for the Water Service.
Starting as a Local Councillor
Allan first became a local councillor in 1993. He was elected to the Strabane District Council, representing the Glenelly area.
He was part of many groups, like the Drainage Council of Northern Ireland. He also led the Western Group Environmental Health Committee. Allan was also the Chairman of North West Passage, a group that helps bring more tourists to the area. He was also a member of the District Policing Partnership in Strabane.
Becoming an MLA
In the 2007 election for the Northern Ireland Assembly, Allan was elected as an MLA for West Tyrone. He was one of two DUP members elected from that area.
Allan lost his Assembly seat in the 2011 election. However, he was re-elected to the Strabane District Council in the local elections held on the same day.
Serving on the New Council
In the 2014 local elections, Allan was elected to the new Derry City and Strabane District Council. He represented the Sperrin area. He was re-elected to this council in 2019 and again in 2023. Allan Bresland retired from the Council in October 2023, just five months after his last re-election.
About Allan's Life
Allan Bresland lives in Sion Mills. He is married and has four children and six grandchildren. He is a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Sion Mills, where he helps with church matters. He is also an active member of the Orange Order, which is a Protestant cultural and religious organization. Allan was also a founder of the North Tyrone Credit Union, which helps people save money and get loans. For 15 years, he served part-time in the Ulster Defence Regiment, a local military group.
