Allegra's Window was a fun American TV show made for children. It aired on Nickelodeon as part of its Nick Jr. block. The show ran from October 1994 to December 1997. You could also watch reruns until 1999. Later, it moved to Noggin from 1999 to 2003.

The series was about the daily life of a curious and imaginative puppet named Allegra. It featured a mix of live actors, puppets, and animation. This was similar to how Sesame Street was made. The show was created by Jan Fleming, John Hoffman, and Jim Jinkins. Jim Jinkins also created the popular cartoon Doug.

Some of the puppeteers from the show, like Kathryn Mullen and Anthony Asbury, later worked on the PBS series Between the Lions. "Allegra's Window" also had short music videos that played between shows on Nick Jr. You can still find the first season of the show on iTunes and Amazon Video. The full series is available on Noggin's paid service. It was also added to Paramount+ in 2021.

What the Show is About

The series follows Allegra as she learns about life. She experiences daily successes, challenges, and little problems. Allegra lives with her older brother, Rondo. Her best friend is Lindi, a yellow dog. There's also Riff, a playful blue neighborhood cat, and Poco, a green boy.

All the characters try to understand the world around them. Their neighborhood friends help them along the way. At the end of each episode, Allegra sits by her window. She thinks about all the new things she has learned.

The show used a lot of music. Many characters were named after musical terms. These included Lindi, Rondo, Riff, Poco, Reed, Miss Melody, and Ellington. Other musical names were Encora, Sonata, Clef, Woofer, Aria, Tweeter, Flugie, and Vi. Allegra herself has a musical name.

There were also parts of the show that featured talking musical instruments. These instruments lived on the wall of Reed's Music shop. Over 100 original songs were made for the series. Don Sebesky was the musical director.

The creator, Jan Fleming, chose the name Allegra after meeting a young girl named Allegra. She thought it would be a great name for the main character of her new show.
