A big part of the money helps students in St. Charles Parish Public School System. It provides scholarships to help them go to college. The funds also help build freshwater wells in other countries. History of the Festival
The very first Alligator Festival was held a long time ago in 1979. It took place at the Willowdale Country Club, also in Luling, Louisiana. Back then, the festival mostly offered dishes made from alligator. But over the years, it grew to include many more types of food and fun activities.
The festival has only been canceled a couple of times. It was called off in 2005 because of Hurricane Katrina. It was also canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But it has always come back, bringing joy to the community.
