The Alligator Festival is a super fun yearly event that happens in Luling, Louisiana. It takes place during the last weekend of September. You can find it at the St. Charles Parish West Bank Bridge Park, right under the big Hale Boggs Bridge.
This festival is packed with exciting things to do! You can listen to awesome live music from different bands. There are also many vendors selling cool stuff like toys, candles, clothes, and jewelry. And of course, there's lots of delicious food! You can try local favorites like jambalaya and pastalaya. They also serve fried and grilled alligator, funnel cakes, Hamburgers, French fries, and hot dogs.
The Alligator Festival is put on by the Rotary Club. They work hard to get donations to make the festival happen. The money they raise helps students in St. Charles Parish get scholarships for school. It also helps build clean freshwater wells in other countries. So, by having fun at the festival, you're also helping others!
History of the Festival
The very first Alligator Festival happened in 1979. It was held at the Willowdale Country Club in Luling, Louisiana. At first, the festival only offered dishes made with alligator. But over the years, it grew bigger and better! More types of food and many more activities were added.
The festival has only been canceled a few times. In 2005, it was called off because of a big storm called Hurricane Katrina. Then, in 2020, it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But usually, you can count on the Alligator Festival happening every September!
