Allison Cara Tolman is an American actress. She is well-known for her roles in TV shows. These include playing Molly Solverson in the first season of Fargo. For this role, she was nominated for Emmy and Golden Globe awards. She also played Alma Fillcot in the second season of Why Women Kill.
Early Life and Learning
Allison Tolman has two older brothers and a younger sister. Her family moved to England when she was a baby. They lived there until she was four years old. After that, they lived in Oklahoma and West Texas. Later, they moved to Sugar Land, Texas.
Allison started acting classes when she was just 10 years old. She took these classes at the Fort Bend Community Theatre. She finished high school at Clements High School in 2000.
She then went to Baylor University. There, she earned a degree called a Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting. After college, she moved to Dallas. She helped start a theater group there called Second Thought Theatre.
In 2009, she moved to Chicago, Illinois. She went there to study acting more at The Second City Training Center.
Her Acting Career
In 2014, Allison Tolman became very famous. She starred in the first season of the TV show Fargo. This show is a dark comedy and crime story. It was inspired by a movie from 1996.
In Fargo, Allison played a police officer named Molly Solverson. Many people praised her acting. Vanity Fair magazine said she "calmly and assuredly stole the entire show." For this role, she won the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Movie/Miniseries. She was also nominated for major awards like the Emmy Awards and Golden Globes.
In the same year, Allison also had a guest role on The Mindy Project. She played Abby Berman, a writer. In 2015, she was in the comedy horror film Krampus.
After her big success in Fargo, Allison looked for different kinds of roles. She wanted to play unique characters. In 2017, she starred in the show Downward Dog. This show was about a woman and her talking dog. It lasted for one season.
She also starred in the ABC drama series Emergence. This show started in September 2019. It was canceled after one season in May 2020. She also appeared as a guest star in NBC's Good Girls.
In 2021, Allison played Alma Filcott in the second season of Why Women Kill. She also played Natalie Green in a special TV event. This event was called Live in Front of a Studio Audience. In the fall of 2024, she began a main role in the NBC comedy show St. Denis Medical.
