Ally Kennen wrote her first book, Beast, while she was studying Creative Writing at Bath Spa University. It was published in 2006. This book was so good that British librarians chose it as one of the top six books for the annual Carnegie Medal. This award celebrates the best children's book published in the UK each year. The judges thought Beast was perfect for readers aged 12 and up.
