Allyn is a small community in Mason County, Washington, United States. It is located on the western shore of the North Bay. This bay is part of the Case Inlet of Puget Sound. In 2020, about 2,194 people lived in Allyn. It is a census-designated place (CDP), which means it's a special area counted by the government.
Allyn was once part of a larger area called Allyn-Grapeview. But in 2010, it became its own separate community. The main road through Allyn is State Route 3.

A Look Back at Allyn
The Allyn area was first settled in 1853. The town officially started on September 6, 1889. It was named after Judge Frank Allyn from Tacoma. He was important in helping the community grow in its early days.
By 1890, Allyn was a busy place. It had a post office, a school, and even a newspaper. There was also a sawmill, two saloons, a hotel, and a wharf. A wharf is like a dock where boats can load and unload goods.
Lakeland Village: A Big Neighborhood
Lakeland Village is a large neighborhood in Allyn. It started being built in the late 1960s and is still growing today. This community has over 800 homes. It makes up most of Allyn's population.
Lakeland Village is built around a 27-hole golf course. It also has a private lake called Lake Anderson. This lake is about 50 acres big. Residents can enjoy many fun activities on the lake.
Getting Around: Old Ways of Travel
From the 1870s to the 1920s, people in Allyn traveled by steamboat. Steamboats were like big boats powered by steam. They helped connect Allyn and other towns along Case Inlet. These boats were very important for moving people and goods.
The last steamboat trip from Tacoma to Allyn happened in 1924. But local steamboat service might have continued for a bit longer.
