Almir de Souza Serra (born July 12, 1946 – died May 5, 2017), known as Almir Guineto, was a famous Brazilian musician. He was a talented singer, songwriter, and played instruments. He was best known for his work in samba and pagode music.

Almir Guineto's Life and Music
Almir Guineto grew up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He came from a family of musicians. He became a director at the Salgueiro samba school. Samba schools are large groups that perform samba music and dance.
Starting His Music Career
Almir was one of the people who started the famous samba group called Fundo de Quintal. He also spent ten years with another group, Originais do Samba. After that, he decided to start his own solo music career.
Almir Guineto is known for bringing the banjo to samba music. He is also seen as one of the main creators of pagode. Pagode is a lively style of samba.
His First Big Success
Almir first became well-known in 1981. His song "Mordomia" won first prize at the MPB-Shell festival. This was a very important music competition in Brazil.
He often visited the Cacique de Ramos roda de samba. A roda de samba is a circle where people gather to play and sing samba. He helped create the first album for Fundo de Quintal. But he left the group before their second album to focus on his solo work.
Almir as a Songwriter
Almir Guineto was not only a great performer but also a respected songwriter. Many famous artists recorded his songs. These included Beth Carvalho and Zeca Pagodinho. Beth Carvalho even said he was one of her favorite sources for songs.
His music was very popular with everyday people. His songs were often sung at parties and gatherings where samba was played. This was because they were so well-known and loved.
His Unique Sound
Almir Guineto released more than 12 albums in Brazil. His first album, O Suburbano, came out in 1981. His records had a special samba sound. This sound became known as Almir's trademark. He often used the banjo a lot in his music. Also, Mauro Diniz often played the cavaquinho (a small guitar-like instrument) on his songs.
Almir's strong and powerful voice was another one of his trademarks. People often called it a "force of nature." Some of his biggest hit songs include "Conselho," "Insensato Destino," and "Rendição." The songs "Pedi ao Céu" and "É, Pois É" became even more famous when Beth Carvalho sang them.
His 1986 album, also called Almir Guineto, was very important. It started with the song "Caxambú," which had African influences. "Mãos" was another one of his big hits, especially when sung by Zeca Pagodinho.
Almir Guineto was highly respected in Brazil. He was considered one of the most important samba musicians.
He passed away on May 5, 2017, in Rio de Janeiro. He had been ill with diabetes and kidney problems.
