History of Almond
Almond became an official village in 1905. Its story began much earlier with a man named Jacob Meyers. He was from the Mohawk Valley in New York.
Jacob Meyers started a special route for stagecoaches and goods. This route went between Berlin and Stevens Point, Wisconsin. He needed a place for his horses to rest. So, he built a barn and an inn where Almond is today.
In 1848, the U.S. government made a deal with the Menominee Native Americans. This deal opened up land in central Wisconsin for new settlers. A post office was set up at Jacob's stagecoach stop on July 8, 1850. James F. Moore became the postmaster. He was from a village also named Almond in New York. This is how Almond, Wisconsin, got its name!
