History of Almont
This area was first settled in the early 1700s. Most of the early settlers were Pennsylvania Germans. These were people who came from Germany to live in Pennsylvania.
Early Churches and Community
The first religious groups in Almont were Lutherans, Reformed Christians, and Mennonites. In 1826, a man named Enos Schlichter gave land for the first church. This church was built and shared by all three groups.
How Almont Got Its Name
Later, in 1868, Jacob Schlichter became the first postmaster. A postmaster is the person in charge of a post office. He named the local post office "Schlichter." Over time, both the post office and the community changed their name to Almont. Today, mail for Almont is delivered by the Sellersville Post Office.
