What is Aloha Township Like?

Aloha Township is home to a small community also called Aloha. This community sits on the eastern shore of Mullett Lake. You can find it along M-212, a road that branches off M-33. It's about 8 miles (13 km) south of Cheboygan.

History of Aloha Community

The community of Aloha started around a sawmill owned by James B. Patterson. There was also a general store run by F. Hout. It used to be a stop on the Detroit and Mackinac Railway. Today, that old railway path is part of the North Eastern State Trail.

The name "Aloha" was chosen by the mill owner, Mr. Patterson. He had visited Hawaii and liked the name. A post office opened in Aloha on December 17, 1903. Lillian Hout was the first postmaster. The post office closed many years later, on October 12, 1942.
