Alpine is a small community in Talladega County, Alabama, United States. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it's not an official city or town with its own local government. Alpine is located southwest of Talladega and northwest of Childersburg.
Many people in Alabama know Alpine because it's home to YMCA Camp Cosby, a popular summer camp. The community got its name from a large farm called Alpine, which belonged to the Welch family. Over time, a small town grew up around this farm when a railroad was built nearby. At first, it was known as Welchs Depot. Eventually, it became known as Alpine, in honor of the original farm.

Alpine has never been counted separately as its own community in the U.S. Census. However, from 1900 to 1950, a specific area of Talladega County was named after Alpine. This area was called the "Alpine Precinct."
During the 1930 and 1940 census counts, this Alpine Precinct had a majority of Black residents. In 1960, the way populations were counted in the county changed. The Alpine Precinct was combined with other areas to form a larger census division called Sycamore-Winterboro.
