History of Alton
Alton was first started in 1838. When it was new, the town was called Nebraska.
The town got its own post office in 1847. This is where people would send and receive letters and packages. In 1860, the post office's name was changed to Alton. The post office in Alton stayed open for many years. However, it finally closed down in 1965.
