History of Altoona
Altoona was first started in 1869. It was originally called Geddesburg. In 1870, its name was changed to Altoona. This new name came from a city in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The first post office in Altoona opened in April 1870.
The town grew quite a bit around 1885. This happened when a railroad line was built through the area.
