Altovise Joanne Gore was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. She grew up in Brooklyn, New York. As a young woman, she became a talented dancer.
Growing Up and Becoming a Dancer
During the 1960s, Altovise worked as a chorus-line dancer. This means she was part of a group of dancers who performed together in musical shows. She danced in many shows in London and on Broadway in New York City. Broadway is famous for its big theater productions.
Meeting Sammy Davis Jr. and Family Life
Altovise met Sammy Davis Jr. in 1968. They were both working on the same show. They got married on May 11, 1970, in Philadelphia. The wedding was led by Rev. Jesse Jackson. Later, in 1989, they adopted a son named Manny.
Sammy Davis Jr. passed away on May 16, 1990, due to a serious illness. This was just five days after their 20th wedding anniversary.
