Alvin Cailan, born in 1983, is a famous American chef. He is also an author and a television host. You might know him as the host of "The Burger Show" on First We Feast. This show can be watched on YouTube and Hulu.
Chef Cailan started a food truck called Eggslut. It became very popular for its delicious egg sandwiches. People would sometimes wait for two hours to try them! Eggslut now has many restaurants in places like Los Angeles, Venice, Glendale, and Las Vegas. In 2021, Alvin Cailan also became the main chef at Umami Burger.

Early Life and School
Alvin Cailan grew up in Pico Rivera, California. His family was from the Philippines. To keep him busy and out of trouble, his parents found him a job. He started washing dishes at a place that fed 150 people every day. By the time he was a senior in high school, Alvin was already cooking. He was even in charge of the kitchen!
College and Culinary Training
Alvin first studied business at California State University, Fullerton. He worked for a construction company for a while. After that, he moved to Oregon. There, he went to the Oregon Culinary Institute to learn more about cooking.
Alvin Cailan's Career
After finishing culinary school, Alvin Cailan worked at several well-known restaurants. He cooked at Olympia Provisions in Portland, Oregon. Then, he moved to California and worked at Bouchon and The French Laundry. These are very famous restaurants in Yountville.
Starting Eggslut
In 2011, Alvin Cailan and his cousin started the Eggslut food truck. It quickly became a hit in Los Angeles. By 2013, Eggslut opened its first restaurant inside Los Angeles's Grand Central Market.
Eggslut became super famous! MSNBC even said it was the most "Instagrammed" restaurant in the world. Bon Appétit magazine also named it one of the top 50 restaurants in the United States. As of 2025, Eggslut has many locations around the world. You can find them in cities like Tokyo, London, Kuwait, Korea, and Singapore.
Cookbook and Umami Burger
Alvin Cailan also wrote a cookbook. It is called Amboy: Recipes from the Filipino-American Dream. This book was published in August 2020. In 2021, he took on a new role. He became the main chef for Umami Burger.
