Alvin Queen is a talented jazz drummer. He was born in the Bronx, New York, on August 16, 1950. Alvin started playing drums at a young age. By the time he was 16, he was already performing with famous musicians like Ruth Brown and Don Pullen. He also played with the Wild Bill Davis trio.
In 1969, Alvin joined trombonist Benny Green and guitarist Tiny Grimes. He even took over from Billy Cobham in the Horace Silver quintet. Alvin also played with the George Benson quartet. Later, in 1971, he rejoined Charles Tolliver. During the 1970s, Alvin lived in Canada. In 1979, he moved to Switzerland. There, he started his own record company called Nilva. The name "Nilva" is his first name spelled backward!
Alvin has played with many other great jazz artists. These include Michael Brecker, Kenny Drew, Oscar Peterson, Bennie Wallace, Duško Gojković, Johnny Griffin, and George Coleman. He has had a long and successful career in music.
