Amado Guevara (born May 2, 1976) is a famous Honduran former football player and coach. He was the coach for the Puerto Rico team from 2018 to 2019.
Amado was a talented midfielder on the field. He is known as one of the players with the most games played for the Honduras national team. He was even chosen as the Best Player in the 2001 Copa América tournament, which took place in Colombia.

Amado Guevara: A Football Star
Playing for Clubs
Amado Guevara, often called El Lobo (The Wolf), started his football journey in Honduras. He played for teams like Club Deportivo Olimpia and F.C. Motagua. His career then took him around the world! He played in Spain for Real Valladolid, in Mexico for Toros Neza and CD Zacatepec, and in Costa Rica for Deportivo Saprissa.
In 2003, Amado joined the MetroStars in Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States. He quickly became a key player. In his first season, he scored three goals and helped his teammates score ten times. He also helped the MetroStars reach their first-ever final in the U.S. Open Cup.
His second season was even better! Amado scored ten goals and made ten assists. He tied for the top scorer in the league and was named the MLS Most Valuable Player (MVP). In 2005, he continued to shine with 11 goals and 11 assists.
After some changes, the MetroStars became the New York Red Bulls. Amado continued to play well for them. In 2006, he scored three goals in one game, helping his team win and reach the playoffs.
Later, Amado moved to Chivas USA and then went on loan to his old club, F.C. Motagua, in Honduras. He helped Motagua win the Copa Interclubes UNCAF 2007, a big championship for Central American clubs.
In 2008, Amado joined Toronto FC in Canada. He quickly became a fan favorite because of his exciting plays and amazing free kicks. He scored 9 goals for Toronto FC. In December 2009, he returned to F.C. Motagua.
In 2010, Motagua played against Toronto FC in a big tournament. Even though Amado scored two goals against his former team, Motagua was eliminated. Amado continued to play for Motagua, scoring many goals. In 2014, he joined C.D. Marathón in Honduras before retiring from playing in 2015.
Playing for Honduras
Amado Guevara also had a fantastic career playing for his home country, Honduras. He played his first game for Honduras in May 1994. He played a total of 138 games for his country and scored 27 goals. He played in many important matches, including World Cup qualifiers and several CONCACAF Gold Cup tournaments.
One of his most memorable moments was in the 2001 Copa América. Honduras was a last-minute replacement in the tournament. They arrived just hours before their first game! In the quarterfinals, Honduras surprised everyone by beating Brazil, who were expected to win the whole tournament. Honduras won 2-0 and made it to the semifinals. Amado was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player for his incredible performance.
Amado helped Honduras qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He was the captain of the team, leading them in only their second appearance ever at a World Cup tournament. His last international game was in June 2010 against Spain.
Becoming a Coach
After retiring as a player, Amado Guevara started a new career as a coach. From 2018 to 2019, he coached the Puerto Rico senior team and their under-20 team. In 2023, he became an assistant manager for Carolina Core FC.
