Amanda Rose Keller OAM was born on 25 February 1962. She is a well-known Australian television and radio presenter. She is also a comedian, writer, actress, and journalist. Many people know her as the host of The Living Room. This is a popular Australian lifestyle TV show.
Amanda also co-hosts a radio show called Jonesy & Amanda with Brendan Jones on Gold 101.7. She also co-hosts Dancing with the Stars with Grant Denyer on Network 10.
Education and Early Career
Amanda Keller went to Carlingford High School. After that, she studied at Mitchell College of Advanced Education. She finished her studies in 1982 with a degree in Communications. This degree taught her about media and how people communicate. While at university, she worked at the campus radio station, 2MCE-FM.
Her first job in media was in 1983. She worked as a researcher for a children's TV show called Simon Townsend's Wonder World!. Later, she was a researcher and producer for Good Morning Australia. By 1985, she worked on Ray Martin's Midday show. This is where she started appearing on TV regularly.
Television and Radio Career
In 1987, Amanda joined the science program Beyond 2000. This show was very popular around the world. She won several awards for her work on this show. These included the United Nations Association of Australia's Media Peace Award in 1989. She also won the Michael Daley Award for Science Journalism.
In 1994, she became a regular guest on Andrew Denton's show Denton. She used her science knowledge and her interest in popular culture on the show. She even wrote a book called Amanda's Handy Home Hints. After Denton finished, she joined Andrew Denton on the breakfast radio show at Triple M. At the same time, she hosted her own TV show called The Hub.
Amanda hosted her own pop culture show, Mondo Thingo, in 2004. In 2006, she was a contestant on Dancing with the Stars. She danced her way to the fifth round of the competition.
She also acted in TV shows. In 2008, she played Amanda Doyle in the SBS TV series Swift and Shift Couriers. She returned for the second season in 2011. She also had a small part in another comedy show called Housos in 2011.
From 2009 to 2012, Amanda was a team leader on Network Ten's quiz show Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation. She led the Baby Boomers team.
In 2017, Amanda became one of the most successful women in Australian radio. That same year, she appeared as a news reporter in an episode of The Bold and the Beautiful. She was also honored by being added to the Australian Commercial Radio Hall of Fame in 2017.
In 2019, Amanda started co-hosting Dancing with the Stars with Grant Denyer. She has also appeared on many other popular TV shows. These include Good News Week, Rove Live, The Project, and Have You Been Paying Attention?. In July 2024, it was announced that Amanda would be part of a new ABC factual series called The Role of a Lifetime.
Personal Life
Amanda Keller is a big fan of the Sydney Roosters rugby league team. She lives in Coogee, a seaside suburb in Sydney. She has two adult sons with her husband, Harley Oliver. In 2023, Amanda shared that her husband Harley is managing a health condition.
Other Achievements
Amanda is a patron of The Sydney Kids Committee. This is a group of volunteers who raise money for the Sydney Children's Hospital.
She holds a world record for the longest underwater radio broadcast. On 28 October 2010, she and her radio co-host Brendan Jones spent over three hours underwater at Sydney Aquarium.
In 2016, Amanda received a special award called the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM). This award was given to her in the 2016 Queen's Birthday Honours for her contributions to media.
