Amauri's Football Journey
Starting Out in Brazil and Switzerland
Amauri began his football training at Palmeiras in Brazil. However, he didn't stay there long. At 19, he moved to Santa Catarina state and played for a local club called Santa Catarina.
His talent was noticed when his club was invited to a tournament in Italy in 2000. Soon after, he signed with Bellinzona, a club in Switzerland. He scored one goal in five games there.
Playing for Italian Clubs
After his time in Switzerland, Amauri moved to Italy. He played for Napoli in the 2000–01 season. Later, he joined Parma.
He also spent time on loan at other Italian clubs. These included Piacenza in the 2001–02 season and Messina in the 2002–03 season. He briefly joined Empoli before moving to Messina.
Time at Chievo
In 2003, Amauri joined Chievo. He started as a backup player but soon became a key striker for the team. Chievo fully bought his player rights in 2005.
During the 2005–06 season, Amauri showed how good he was. His strong play helped Chievo qualify for the UEFA Champions League preliminary rounds.
Moving to Palermo
On August 31, 2006, Amauri was transferred to Palermo. He quickly became a fan favorite and an important player for the team. He scored eight goals in 18 league matches by December 2006.
However, a serious knee injury kept him from playing for seven months. He recovered in time for the 2007–08 season. He scored his first goal of that season in a 4–2 win against Livorno.
Playing for Juventus
On May 30, 2008, Amauri joined Juventus, one of Italy's biggest clubs. He started playing more regularly under coach Claudio Ranieri. By the end of 2008, he had scored 11 goals in Serie A, making him Juventus's second-highest scorer.
The 2009–10 season was tough for Amauri. He struggled to score goals, only getting six in 30 matches. Fans often criticized his performance during this period.
For the 2010–11 season, Amauri started well, scoring two goals in the UEFA Europa League qualifiers. But he was often on the bench under the new manager, Luigi Delneri.
Loans and Transfers
On January 31, 2011, Amauri went back to Parma on loan. He had a great few months there, scoring seven goals in 11 games. He helped Parma stay in Serie A.
After his loan, Amauri returned to Juventus. He was not part of the team's plans for the 2011–12 season and did not play any games. His jersey number was even given to another player.
Later, Amauri moved to Fiorentina in a permanent deal. He scored only one goal in 13 games for them. However, that goal was very important. On April 7, he scored the winning goal against Milan, helping Fiorentina win 2–1. This win allowed Juventus to take the top spot in the league, which they held until the end of the season.
Back to Parma and Torino
On July 2, 2012, Amauri returned to Parma for his third time. He signed a four-year contract. He scored two goals in his third game back, helping Parma beat Sampdoria 2–1. He also scored a hat-trick (three goals) against Torino on March 10, 2013, helping Parma win 4–1.
On September 1, 2014, Amauri signed with Torino. He scored his first goal for them in the Europa League on October 23. He scored his first Serie A goal for Torino on February 1, 2015, in a 5–1 win against Sampdoria. In the 2015–16 season, he played only two matches and left the club in February 2016.
Playing in the USA
On August 9, 2016, Amauri joined the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the North American Soccer League (NASL).
On February 21, 2017, he moved to the New York Cosmos. He was released by the Cosmos on August 1, 2017.
Playing for Italy
Amauri was born in Brazil, but he later became eligible to play for the Italian national team. This was possible because his wife, Cynthia, became an Italian citizen in March 2009. Amauri himself received Italian citizenship on April 12, 2010.
In January 2009, the Brazilian coach Dunga wanted Amauri to play for Brazil in a friendly match against Italy. However, Amauri's club, Juventus, did not allow him to go. In November 2009, Amauri confirmed he wanted to play for Italy instead of Brazil.
After becoming an Italian citizen, Amauri was finally able to play for Italy. On August 6, 2010, he received his first call-up to the Italian national team. This was for a friendly match against Ivory Coast. He started the game, but Italy lost 1–0. This was his only appearance for the Italian national team.
