A Look Back in Time: History of Ambarrow Court

A long time ago, in 1885, a grand Victorian manor house was built at Ambarrow Court. It was built for a brave soldier named Lieutenant Colonel George Sheppard Harvey and his wife, Edith. Colonel Harvey had served his country in the Royal Artillery and wanted a peaceful home for his retirement.

After Colonel Harvey passed away in 1902, his wife Edith lived in the house until 1932. Later, in 1940, the Royal Aircraft Establishment started using the site. They used it for many years until 1969. The old manor house was taken down in 1970.

In 1986, the Bracknell Council took over the southern part of the estate. They opened it up for everyone to enjoy and even added a car park. Then, in 2002, Ambarrow Court was officially named a Local Nature Reserve by the Bracknell Forest Council. This means it's a protected place for nature and wildlife.
